Double dragon double phoenix 2021 | 2oz silver | Tuvalu
In traditional Chinese culture, the dragon is revered as a divine creature and potent symbol of power, wealth and good fortune. The phoenix is regarded as an immortal bird that appears in times of peace and prosperity. Also representing the Chinese emperor and empress, the dragon and phoenix's appearance together symbolises wedded bliss.
The 2021 Tuvalu Double Dragon Double Phoenix Colored Antique 2 oz Silver is dedicated to the Dragon and the Phoenix. This exquisitely designed and minted coin is full of symbolism and eye-catching detail. According to dragon-planet.com, "The dragon and the phoenix are the two most powerful symbols of success and prosperity in Chinese mythology. In Feng Shui, they are considered the ultimate symbol of love and life as a couple."
As a legal tender release by Tuvalu, the obverse displays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The surface is lightly antiqued. Inscriptions encircling the rim include, "QUEEN ELIZABETH II . 2 oz 9999 Silver . 2021 . TUVALU . 2 DOLLARS."
The reverse features an incredibly detailed scene. The mint describes it as this: "The coin's highly symmetrical artistry employs twin dragon and phoenix motifs - in artistic terms doubling the strength of their auspicious influences. These mythical creatures surround the ancient Yin and Yang symbol (taijitu) embodying the feng shui concept that the universe is governed through the balance of opposing yet complementary principles. Also included in the design are stylised clouds, associated with rain and abundant harvests, as well as coloured peonies, flowers symbolising royalty, wealth and honour."
