Legendary warriors: Eric bloodaxe | 1oz silver | Unspecified mint
The first reveal in the Legendary Warriors series is for Eric Haraldsson, otherwise known as Eric Bloodaxe. This 1 oz of .999 fine Silver Round features this famous Viking credited in the Viking sagas with the unification of Norway. He is most well known for being a warrior and king of Norway who gained his throne through the extermination of his brothers. He also left visible traces of his own in the form of coinage issued in his name at York. Both English and saga sources agree that Eric had been killed in battle, though in later English chronicles, no such details appear in contemporary sources. However, later sources theorize that Eric was killed in an ambush by Maccus, son of Olaf.
The obverse displays Eric Bloodaxe standing tall on a lakeshore, holding his axe and shield and ready for a fight. His axe blade is decorated with Viking symbols, and his shield features a coiled dragon. His bearskin cape is ornately decorated at the shoulder. Mountains tower in the background. "ERIC BLOODAXE" is inscribed at the top.
The reverse features an assortment of Viking weapons arranged in a pattern that outlines a circle. Axes, swords, arrows, a mace, and spears lie underneath a wooden bow. The center features a medallion with six arrows forming a circular shape, with the ends of their shafts meeting in the center. "LEGENDARY WARRIORS" is inscribed at the top, and "1.oz 999 FINE SILVER" along the bottom
